Stereolithography (SLA)
Stereolithography is among the most accurate and widely used 3D printing processes. It has a broad range of applications with a good balance of speed, accuracy, finishes and material properties.
Parts are constructed in layers ranging from .001” to .006.” They have features as small as .010” in clear and opaque epoxy-based SOMOS® materials that simulate common thermo plastics. Parts are built in standard and high resolution solid build styles and in the QuickCast™ build style which produces hollow patterns for investment casting. Vaupell offers a wide variety of finishes including: strip and ship, standard, pattern, clear, SuperClear, painted and plated.
The applications for stereolithography are quite extensive including:
- Models for communication and verification – form and fit, communication/presentation sales, marketing and manufacturing aids
- Clear parts
- Parts for verification and testing – functional testing, photo-elastic stress analysis, wind tunnel models, hydrodynamic testing and modal analysis
- Patterns and tools – holding tools and fixtures, sand and plaster mold casting patterns, investment casting patterns, rein casting patterns, plating mandrels
